Jim's Cabo Forecast

Well kids, we are stuck here in Cabo for the duration of the hurricane! All of the flights out have been canceled or all full. However, our resort is one of Cabo's hurricane shelters. They desalinate their own water and have generators for electricity. Worst case scenario, we would be evacuated to the underground spa building. They also have plenty of food and water stored just in case. And by the way, the food and water would be free! So, we're making the most of it. Whatever it is or wherever it strikes, it will all be over my mid day Tuesday and back to happy hour! We may loose our wireless signal, so don't be worried in case we don't check in. Meanwhile, here is a moment of levity from our own Jim Wilson, destined to be a Weather Channel on-air personality in the near future!

HGTV Canton

Okay, it's not HGTV, but I am using the video feature on my new iphone to show my garden. I am beginning to really understand that gardening is a process. It is never done and yet it's perfect at the moment. Let me know your thoughts. And, let's see a video of your hobby.

In listening to it, I realized I could put daphne odora in the dry shade by the house. However,it's just too slow growing. I think I planted the largest daphne odora about 10 years ago as a very small plant.

We are back and had a great time kayaking around Lopez

These shot are from Fisherman Bay Spit a wildlife preserve in the village, I'll be putting more up on facebook, hope all is well with everyone.

Happy Birthday (a day late) Sharon

I did not forget Sharon's birthday. Like a good nephew, I called and left a message and also sent a card.

Happy Birthday Sharon.

Mile High WI FI Club

I am on my way to Boston and using the new WI FI service on Delta! It is very cool to be able to work, talk to the office and, of course, blog and update Facebook at 35,000 feet!

That's all really...

Bran Muffins

It is always amazing what memories pop into one's mind. Brian is trying to lower his cholesterol by increasing his fruit and vegetable intake along with increased fiber. Jill was making carrot vegan muffins. I remember my mom's bran muffins. She would make up a huge batch and keep the batter in the fridge. I have my mom's cookbooks so I went on the quest. I found the recipe typed on a 3x5 card titled Midred's Bran Muffins. Don't know who Midred was or perhaps it is Mildred. Anyway I made the muffins, substituting sour nonfat milk for buttermilk and 1/2 the flour with wholewheat flour, a little less sugar, added some dates and walnuts and baked a batch. Pretty tasty. But would have been much better warm out of the oven slathered in butter like we used to eat them.

As a footnote, not sure if Brian's cholesterol is lower, but he has lost weight...like he really needed to. Just not fair.

I will post the recipe if anyone wants it.

Fascinating

I saw this spider web today on one of the large outdoor candelabras we have. I have never seen a spider web like this.

Ana

For those of you interested in tracking tropical storms and hurricanes. Here is the best site. You can also get updates from NOAA via email. Jill told me about this site a couple of years ago.

NOAA NHC

Currently, Ana (ah-na) is the one tropical storm. But, Bill may form any hour now.

How about

some outdoor furniture to go with your rug! Last night at dinner Bill closed the deal with our newest client, Caluco. We will be doing branding as well as furniture design for them. Hopefully, the furniture will be ready by next Spring. It's taken a lot to get through this latest downturn, but things are definitely on the upswing. Two new clients this month. One in Rhode Island and one in California. Both long term contracts.

I promise. No more business posts for awhile, unless you want to buy a rug!

We leave for Cabo in two weeks. It will be nice to relax and bake in the sun. That seems plenty strenuous.

Oh, and I am caught up on True Blood. Awesome!

PodCast

Our store is getting a lot of attention. Perhaps it's because we're taking a risk during these difficult times. The design community is especially interested. From hearing designers talk, it seems they all want to open a store and sell the things they make. Anyway, here's a podcast that Bill did this week.

pee ess - our on-line store will be open in the next few weeks. Of course, I'll promote it here.

1000!

This is the 1,000th post on WarroadRoots. Here was my original post.

What's this about
I was thinking about all the cousins, aunts, uncles, children, partners, spouses, grandparents and on and on this holiday season and realized that there was a tool we could use to keep in touch with each other. Hence, WarroadRoots. Yes, all one word! We may not have been born there or even have visited, but all roads of the extended family lead back there. So, if you want to connect with someone, let the world know you are still alive and kicking or maybe find that long lost favorite relative, sign-on and update WarroadRoots. It's an experiment. Plus, I got a new macbook for Christmas and I can't stop using it.

Enjoy!

Jim Wilson

That was from Dec 26th, 2006. A lot has transpired in our lives since then. Births, deaths, weddings, job promotions, new ventures started, an African American president, an economy in free fall, many visits, many vacations, music and a little more music. The list goes on and on. I want to thank everyone who contributes whether it's commenting or a full blown post. It's great to know what your life looks like. And, being just a reader is fine too. But, you might try commenting one day. We would like to know you are there.

Bill and I saw Julie & Julia this weekend. It's a nice movie. Of course, Meryl Streep is phenomenal as Julia Child. Julie is the blogger. In some ways, I identified with her. It's a great feeling to write something and "put it out there." If someone reads it great. If they don't, that just fine. It's the act of doing something that makes a difference.

Keep on reading. Keep on commenting. Keep on posting. Let's see how long until post number 2,000.

Well Done, Tim!

From Jill

Some of you may or may not know that Tim serves on the board for NeighborCare Health Centers (formerly Puget Sound Neighborhood Health Care Clinics). He has been a part of the clinics for many years now and they have featured him in this years annual report. To read the article scroll to page 5.

Happy Birthday Grandma

This one's for you, Grandma. Today is the anniversary of Dorothy Curtis Wilson Larson's birthday. I think of her often, especially her love of her garden. Her new potatoes and peas were divine. Also, she stubbornly refused to let anyone else mow her lawn. I hear ya Grandma!

My garden project this year has been to start a butterfly garden. Of course, it will be a multi-year project. However, there are already results. This one was particularly interesting. I was able to get within inches of it.

Yesterday, I was lying in the sun and a dragon fly landed on my hand and stayed there for a minute or so. I wish only the non-biting insects would land on me. The mosquitoes are horrible this year.

Oh, and we have found three (3) snake skins. The part left after they molt. Fascinating.

Have a good week. It's finally hot here. The 90's all week. Yeah!

Principal Storm at her new desk.

True Blood

I finally was convinced to watch HBO's True Blood. I am now officially hooked. I have about a 1/2 hour of season one to watch. Then, I can catch up on season 2. Here's the theme song.

When you came in, the air went out...

Mac & Cheese

Leo shows off his good manners while eating some Macaroni and Cheese. He used to only eat dry cat food. Now, he wants to eat what we are eating. He gets turkey lunch meat twice a day.

I survived on box macaroni and cheese while going to Anitioch and making $575 a month working at Safeco Insurance. Yes, $575 a month. That was just a little better than the $2.35 an hour I made at the stick factory. Good times!

More Promotion

I have never been shy about putting our promotional efforts or media attention on the blog. So here is another one. Click here. There is an interview with Bill at the end of the post.

Simple Joys

I consider my muck boots a garden necessity. I finally replaced my well used and "holey" pair. I started the wearing-in process tonight while mowing the lawn. I highly recommend them if you do a lot of gardening or even a little.
