Pop Quiz

I try to stay current with pop music. However, most of it bores me. I do like this song and it is current.

I do have a question. Is, "If I were a boy" correct grammatically? Bill and I discussed it yesterday and thought that it probably is correct, but it still doesn't sound quite right to my ear. Any thoughts?

It is correct and "were" is used in the subjenctive mood. When verbs show something contrary to fact, they are in the subjunctive mood. When you express a wish or state something that is not actually true, use the past tense or past perfect tense; when using the verb 'to be' in the subjunctive, always use WERE rather than WAS. There now, sleep well...
