NO CANTON WEST!!!

Well, I'll be damned. It's a new day in Canton, Georgia. Tonight, the city council voted 4 to 3, with the Mayor casting the deciding vote, to deny annexation of 901 acres into the city. Once they denied the annexation, there was no need to vote on the rezoning and master plan. And, apparently there is no legal action that can be taken when a city decides not to annex land into the city. Everyone is in shock that the tide has turned. I don't think anyone thought we could beat the money men/women. Surprise. Surprise. People power works!

Here are a couple photos from the meeting. There were probably 250 people there, if not more.

Good for you! Bet you are glad it is over. Expansion can be good, but alas, like all things, too much of a good thing is really NOT good.

Doesn't that first photo look like "the last supper?"

Well, it was the old sanctuary of the First Baptist Church. And, it probably was the last supper for the old guard. Thank all the goddesses.

That is funny because my truly first thought was "that looks like a church"...interesting. I'm learning a lot about Georgia ;)

Well, you see the last mayor was a member of the First Baptist Church. He arranged the sale of the old church for use as the city hall when the new church was built. The new church just happens to be the one with the great view of the new lake. The baptists are on longer in control. However, we are left to clean up the mess left by thier ponzi scheme.

They kept incurring more debt and then needed new development (impact fees) to service the interest on the debt. The city bond debt is estimated at 60 million. A lot for a city our size.
